  • Give A Smoke Free Life To A Friend With Electronic Cigarettes

Posted on March 10th, 2010 admin No comments

If you are searching for a perfect present for someone that smokes cigarettes, the answer could be really simple. If you can not make them give up their nicotine habit all together, giving them an electronic cigarette could be the next best thing. You would still be helping to stop smoking tobacco and use something that will still let them have their nicotine, but they would not be getting a lot of the other harmful things with it. This could be a gift you can give that will not only make the recipient feel good, but yourself as well. You could be giving them something that can truly change their life.

The good things about electronic cigarettes is not just the fact that it will save them money in the long run, but is has other attributes as well. Did you know that an e-cigarette produces no tar when it is used? If you do not smoke yourself or ever have, you might not know the extent of damage the tar alone from a cigarette can cause for the smoker. It is the sticky, brown substance that stains the walls of a house and makes it smell so bad. This is what it also does to the lings of the smoker and of course, if you get close to them, you can not help but know how it makes them smell too.

For the same price that you can buy them a nice new sweater or some other trivial gift that they might not ever even use, you can purchase them an entire electronic cigarette starter kit with everything they will need to be able to get tobacco out of their life. With the e-cigarette there is not tar, no odor, no residue, no real smoke so there is no secondhand smoke either. If you are going to give someone a gift, it might as well be a gift that they will at least try to use.

You have no idea what getting tobacco out of the life of someone that smokes can mean to them. They might be eternally grateful to you for thinking of something that could mean so much to them. There is no telling how badly they might have wanted to stop using tobacco and how many times they might have tried. It is not so easy to give up the nicotine and the habit of holding a cigarette in your hand. What they might be able to do without is the tobacco part of the equation and believe, that is a whole lot better than nothing at all.

  • Quit Smoking Tips

Posted on February 9th, 2010 admin No comments

If you are one of the millions of smokers out there who wants to quit smoking once and for all, it is understandable how you may feel intimidated by the task at hand. You often hear stories about how difficult it is for smokers to quit and not pick up the habit again. It can be downright frustrating due to the fact that more often than not, despite all of the encouraging comments from friends and families who want you to quit, having friends who still hang on to their habit. Do not worry, here are some tips to help make your road to a smoke free life a little bit easier.

The first thing you need to do is set up what your motivation is for quitting and constantly remind yourself of it. If it is your health, then remind yourself of the harm you could be doing your body and the damage that it is having on your health long term. Or if you are quitting for your family, then keep them close and use that to remind yourself of your goal. The next thing you need to know is that more than likely you will slip and find yourself smoking at least once. It is important that you do not beat yourself up over this. Instead, simply write down the circumstances that lead up to you smoking again, and remind yourself of it. This will be a big help in preventing a repeat from occurring.

Another thing you should keep in mind to do is have a non-smoking friend hold you accountable as you try to quit. While it is not impossible to have a smoking friend help you, more often than not people fail when they try that. Have this person encourage you to keep trying to quit, and you will find that it will become easier to resist the cravings.

Another way to resist cigarette cravings is to occupy the time that you would normally spend smoking with doing something else. You could take the time to accomplish small, menial tasks. It helps to distract yourself. It should also be noted that while using gums and patches to try and quit smoking can be very helpful, they will not be very effective if you do not exercise the willpower to resist the urge to smoke. Just remember these tips, and you should be able to kick the habit once and for all. You can do it!

  • Expert Reviews And Opinions On Electronic Cigarettes Are Positive

Posted on February 9th, 2010 admin No comments

If you aren’t sure about switching to the electronic cigarette, maybe what you need is insight from a different person’s perspective. Tobacco industries want to try as hard as they can to convince smokers that e-cigarettes should be avoided and that they pose health risks. At the same time, they make no comment about the obvious links of tobacco use to lung cancer, heart disease, etc. The more people switch to smoking alternatives, the more money tobacco companies will lose. It only makes sense that they do everything in their power to stifle attempts to provide alternatives to smoking.

There are some 4000+ chemicals in tobacco smoke, many of which are known to be carcinogenic. Tobacco smoke has been known to cause various kinds of cancer, heart disease, and early signs of wrinkles in the skin. Tobacco companies never advertise what their products contain. Doing so would be the equivalent of corporate suicide as it would undoubtedly result in people switching from tobacco to other forms of nicotine use.

Michael Siegel, a physician, researcher and professor at the Boston University School of Public Health had this to say in response to a senator’s proposed ban of electronic cigarettes:

This is about as idiotic and irrational an approach as I have ever seen

in my 22 years in tobacco control and public health. A public policy

maker who touts himself as being a champion of the public’s health

as well as some of the leading national health advocacy organizations

is demanding that we ban what is clearly a much safer cigarette than

those on the market, but that we allow, protect, approve and institutionalize the really toxic ones.”

Any attempt to provide a safer alternative for something that’s been proven as detrimental to a person’s

health should never be met with such adversity. No tests have been able to show e-cigarettes as worse (or even just as bad) of an alternative to traditional cigarettes. Not only is there personal health to be taken into consideration, but the health of others as well. E-cigarettes, as opposed to real cigarettes, don’t give off a smoke that’s full of tar and other harmful chemicals. This makes it more pleasant to be around for nonsmokers, since the odor causing chemicals of cigarettes isn’t present in e-cigarettes.

Jacob Sullum is the senior editor at Reason magazine and a nationally syndicated columnist. He is also the author of For Your Own Good: The Anti-Smoking Crusade and the Tyranny of Public Health. He provided this quote, commenting on e-cigarettes:

Telling smokers they may not use electronic cigarettes until they’re

approved by the FDA is like telling a floundering swimmer not to

climb aboard a raft because it might have a leak.”

This makes perfect sense. You can’t deny that nicotine itself isn’t healthy. When all things are considered, it does appear that e-cigarettes have some sort of benefits over traditional smoking. You obviously aren’t taking in all the harmful chemicals from normal cigarettes, but to ban their usage because the product doesn’t have a proven running history of x amount of years is just silly.

E cigarettes provide an alternative to people who no longer want to smell like they’ve been smoking or the stained teeth, fingers, and odorous breath that accompanies it. It’s definitely something worth looking into for people concerned about the health risks associated with tobacco smoke.
