Quit Smoking Tips
Posted on February 9th, 2010 No commentsIf you are one of the millions of smokers out there who wants to quit smoking once and for all, it is understandable how you may feel intimidated by the task at hand. You often hear stories about how difficult it is for smokers to quit and not pick up the habit again. It can be downright frustrating due to the fact that more often than not, despite all of the encouraging comments from friends and families who want you to quit, having friends who still hang on to their habit. Do not worry, here are some tips to help make your road to a smoke free life a little bit easier.
The first thing you need to do is set up what your motivation is for quitting and constantly remind yourself of it. If it is your health, then remind yourself of the harm you could be doing your body and the damage that it is having on your health long term. Or if you are quitting for your family, then keep them close and use that to remind yourself of your goal. The next thing you need to know is that more than likely you will slip and find yourself smoking at least once. It is important that you do not beat yourself up over this. Instead, simply write down the circumstances that lead up to you smoking again, and remind yourself of it. This will be a big help in preventing a repeat from occurring.
Another thing you should keep in mind to do is have a non-smoking friend hold you accountable as you try to quit. While it is not impossible to have a smoking friend help you, more often than not people fail when they try that. Have this person encourage you to keep trying to quit, and you will find that it will become easier to resist the cravings.
Another way to resist cigarette cravings is to occupy the time that you would normally spend smoking with doing something else. You could take the time to accomplish small, menial tasks. It helps to distract yourself. It should also be noted that while using gums and patches to try and quit smoking can be very helpful, they will not be very effective if you do not exercise the willpower to resist the urge to smoke. Just remember these tips, and you should be able to kick the habit once and for all. You can do it!
